What to consider when planning your Byron Bay Wedding

What to consider when planning your Byron Bay Wedding

Byron Bay as a wedding destination has an undeniable appeal, made evident by the thousands of wedding hopefuls that land on her sultry sandy shores. A flourishing foodie scene, iconic coastlines, rolling hinterland vistas are all complimented with a sub-tropical climate, making Byron Bay an attractive location not only for holiday makers but for those couples wanting a destination wedding.

It’s been said that the Byron Bay wedding industry brings around $70 million per year to the shire so needless to say the industry is booming. It is important however to remember that there are some key considerations when booking your wedding venue. Here at Beach Byron Bay, we can cater and coordinate weddings not only at the restaurant but at offsite properties located around the region – but there are some important considerations first.

Check the conditions

There are nine zones in the Byron Shire where function centres are permitted with development consent according to Byron Shire Council’s legal services coordinator Ralph James. But there are three other zones ‘where there are commercial weddings at the moment where function centres are prohibited, it it’s within those three zones where there are current issues coming forward’. Many hinterland properties have been shut down due to the impact on surrounding neighbours, with noise being the main form of complaint. It’s important to check all the terms and conditions and ensuring the property is suitable for weddings. We can help recommend venues that we cater to and be the onsite coordinator to ensure all transport, suppliers, staffing, theming requirements are all taken care off.

Wet weather

It dosen’t matter where you decide to hold your Byron Bay wedding, you’ll still need a back-up wet weather plan! This can largely be determined by your numbers. For example, for Beach Byron Bay Weddings, couples can use the internal space of the restaurant if their numbers are to a maximum of 70 guests for a sitdown or up to 150 for cocktail. For offsite properties, you’ll need to think about possible back up marquees, or transport to an alternate ceremony venue.

Budget

Be mindful to factor in all considerations – everything from minimum spends, additional lighting and transport – to extra meals for your band members and photographers.

Peak periods

Byron is spoilt for choice when it comes to arts, music and well being festivals, not to mention sporting events taking advantage of the local climate and spectacular coastline. So take note of where these events fall on the events calendar, as you’ll find not only accommodation rates will spike, but availability will also become scarce.
