27 Sep Top 5 Styling ideas for Byron Bay Beach Weddings
Having a beach wedding is an amazing way to celebrate not only marrying the love of your life (congratulations!), but also embracing our picturesque location here along the east coast. There is something about the relaxed and sunny lifestyle here that inspires couples to plan a beachfront Byron Bay wedding. As with all wedding venues, the space and location plays a huge part in the styling of your day – styling a beachside Byron Bay wedding is a completely different experience to say, styling a reception in a rustic wooden barn. So what are the best ways to make the most of the coastal location and reflect this in your décor? Check out our top 5 styling ideas for beach weddings below!
1. Incorporate natural textures
Textures play a huge part in styling a beach wedding! Take a look around – if you are planning a Byron Bay wedding then you are SURROUNDED by unique textures. Grainy sand, ocean water, driftwood, soft pebbles – these textures are everywhere and what better way to bring the beach inside your reception than by incorporating some of these materials in your design (in an understated way of course – maybe steer clear of buckets of sand dumped on the reception floor!).
Think about how to include these textures in a subtle but effective way. Woven rattan charger plates are a great way to create a coastal feel into your tablescape and are a super easy way to add detail at each place setting. Mismatched pieces of coral and shells can be scattered down the length of your tables to create a unique table runner. Or include some cane or bamboo furniture like sofa’s and armchairs to create a beach-inspired lounge setting.
2. Let your colour palette be inspired by your surroundings
For a beachside wedding, it’s probably not the most thoughtful design choice to be covering your tables in bright red cloths. Your chosen colour palette will be the base of your design and what ties each element together – so keep things reflective of your location and stick to neutrals like whites and creams with touches of ocean blues and greenery. Some combinations will always be timeless, like white and navy, or if you want something a bit brighter, sunny colours like yellow and teal also work well as features for beach weddings. Tip – a great way to bring bright colours into your décor without it being overkill is to incorporate these into soft furnishings like cushions and rugs, or tableware like coloured glassware.
3. Keep it relaxed
A standout feature that resonates throughout beach weddings is the ambience. Just like the location, Byron Bay weddings should have a laidback and super relaxed ambience for guests to kick back with the sounds of the ocean rolling in the distance. Think casual and informal!
If you are decking out a reception space with cocktail furniture, think of comfortable options that will make your guests unwind– like lounges, armchairs and ottomans. And don’t forget plenty of soft cushions and rugs to really make your guests feel at home!
4. Take inspiration from the ocean with your stationery
Your wedding stationery is a super easy and effective way to bring a sense of the beach into your reception. We love beautiful navy and indigo watercolours reminiscent of the ocean, calligraphy on parchment paper tied to pieces of driftwood, or handwritten guest names on shells. This way your guests will also have a memento to hold on to and will remember your day forever!
5. Get creative with your cake
Beach-inspired cakes are some of our absolute favourites! Truly personalise your cake with decorations of seashells and coral, pebbles, or floaty pieces of airplants and other greenery. Textured white icing is another unique way to make your cake seem at home in a coastal setting. Or create a standout cake with handpainted brushstrokes of blues and creams to reflect the horizon.
Beach weddings can be so beautiful when styled in a thoughtful way to reflect and embrace the coastal surroundings. But don’t forget the most important part of styling any wedding – have fun and stay true to yourself as a couple!
